3 needle cast off!

I have been doing the ‘Kitchener stitch’ to bind off my socks, but I wasn’t happy with the resulting tugs and sometimes holes.  So a friend of mine, suggested that I try the Three needle bind off.  Doing the Three needle bind off with the Right Side Facing left a ridge I didn’t like.  Rebekah said she turns hers inside out to bind off and thus hide the ridge.  OK, I gave that a try… but I was loosing stitches off of the ends of my double pointed needles.  Very tricky trying to turn them inside out!  Then *flash*!  Try putting the stitches on a thread or yarn to turn it… of course you have to re-needle them So…. *FLASH* put the stitches on a circular needle!  And … Oh yes!  This works very nicely!

My socks are awesome!!

Elgin County Quilters’ Guild

Marilyn will be happy when she learns that the quilt she spent so much time quilting was awarded to her niece, Dawn Philips, when Dawn’s name was drawn at this month’s guild meeting.

The quilt was featured on postcards that had been for sale, which also entered the consumer in the draw.

Dawn was extremely thrilled when she came into the shop to get her quilt, knowing her Aunt was part of the project made it all the more special to her.

New socks

Oh Yes!  These are for me!

The yarn is working up very nicely.  I’ve made the cuffs a little taller, and I really like how the side of the heel flap lays.

These are oh so soft and comfee.

Maybe next time…  I do have sock yarn stashed…

Knitting Goddesses meet

Here we are having great fun, chatting and talking wool… real wool.  Jocelyn Bullen, from Gainford Forest Farm, gave a talk about the Jacob and Shetland sheep she raises with her family.   Jocelyn brought in samples of the fleece and raw wool for display which we fondly fondled.  The finished products of yarn were made available for us to buy.  Who can resist??  I bought 2 of the skeins of spun Shetland yarn.  I wonder what I’ll make?  Socks?  Mittens?

Community Hours

Pictured here is one of the quilts that will be donated to a child in shelter with ‘Violence Against Women, Elgin County’.    These quilts are sponsored by Carrie’s Quilting & Knitting and Elgin County Quilters’ Guild.

Students: Working on this quilt also counts towards community hours needed for High School diploma.

You can see this quilt at this year’s International Plowing Match, held in Elgin County.  Maybe you can put a stitch in it, too!

Support local charities… these are your neighbours, friends and children.

The Sweater

Alright!  I’m making a sweater for my husband…

But I’m not doing it in three sections!  No side seams for me!  I’ll do the whole cardigan at once.

He’s a furnace, so no wool.  A very soft acrylic worsted weight.  No loud strips or bright colours.  A classic  roll collar cardi with pockets, raglan sleeves … no cables or texturing either.

260 stitches, on 4.5mm needles   2 1/2″ ribbing ,  then stocking stitch to the under arms.   Each sleeve is done on four needles and joined to main body and continue for the yoke and shoulders.

Now I’m way ahead of myself!  I’m just doing the ribbing right now!

I’m thinking of more socks, too.  Hmmm.  Focus!!

Socks to Tom

I finished these socks in time for the weekend.

I visited my son Thomas and showed them to him.  Right away he claimed them.

I am so pleased that he likes hand-knit socks!  He asked that they not be so stripey next time!

Fabulous!  Now I can knit socks for myself and my sister and my son!  While I prepare to knit my hubby a sweater… as soon as the yarn comes in.

Almost Done!

I wanted to be finished this pair of socks by today, but I still have a foot to do.  There are just two more rounds of decrease for the ankle to the foot part and then easy-peasy!  Decrease for toes and ‘kitchener stitch’ the cast off… Done!

I love to think about what I’ll try next.  The joy of planning!

I’m mulling over the idea of cable mittens… or maybe a Long Shoreman black cardigan for my husband.  I haven’t taken on a ‘sweater’ project in a long time.

Hmmm.  Time to stash bust, check out my patterns for inspiration…..  Oh Joy!
