Quilters are Givers

Why would you cut up perfectly nice whole cloth fabric into little pieces, spend hours deciding where to put those tiny pieces, more hours sewing and unsewing, then layering and more sewing!… not done yet… Then you add another ‘edge’ to the whole thing and call it: TIME WELL SPENT!!      You betcha!   That’s quilting.

Originally, quilters were frugal homemakers, saving old shirts, dresses and bits, then adding them all together in a pleasing way to make blanket-quilts which keep their families warm.  And they look good on the bed or chair!

We, Elgin Quilters, continue in this main.  We share our warm hearts by making and giving these quilts to the stressed out women and children in shelter.  Letting them know that we do care about them, during a time when they likely doubt anyone does.   “Violence Against Women, Elgin County”  distributes these quilts for us, and usually a pillow sack too.

More Children Quilts

Tabby has accumulated so many Community Hours that she had the required amount her first year of High School!  And yet Tabby continues to give.  Often she will come into the shop and put in a half hour on the current quilt.   Tabby is our youngest Guild Member.    At the October meeting Tabby gave these five quilts to be counted in with our donations to the children with ‘Violence Against Women, Elgin’.  We are proud to have this enthusiastic and giving person in our community.   Good on ya!  Tabby!

Quilters’ Guild donate to the children

Elgin County Quilters’ Guild has been donating children quilts to ‘Violence Against Women, Elgin’ as their primary charity of choice.   We hope to give the children a bit of comfort in a trying time. Some of these quilts have been in my shop for hands-on quilting by students looking for Community Hours.  Do you recognize the turquoise one?

Saturday with Judy Ann and Barbara

Judy and Barb came to visit
Judy Ann Sadler and Barbara Haworth-Attard visited my shop on Saturday afternoon. These lovely ladies displayed their talent through published books, designed patterns for crafts and quilts, as well as bringing samples of their designs for us to see and touch.
Judy Ann authors for the ‘Kids Can Do It’ book series.
Barbara authors young adult historical Canadian novels including a few in the ‘Dear Canada’ series.
Together they are ‘Babs’n’Jas’ a design duo publishing patterns on quilt making.
I am so pleased they visited with me and left some items for display and books for sale. Always so gracious and friendly.
Visit often, my friends!
